T-Bird Men Travel To Centenary |

Southern Utah’s men’s basketball team will look to win two in a row as well as two straight on the road Thursday whtn the Thunderbirds travel to Shreveport, La., for a Summit League matchup with Centenary. The Thunderbirds (6-12, 4-3 Summit) bounced back from their worst loss of the season with an 85-80 home win over South Dakota State on Saturday. SUU had absorbed a 76-53 setback at the hands of Summit leader North Dakota on Thursday, but even with that loss the ‘Birds have won two of their last three, including a 66-50 win at UMKC on Jan. 10 in its last road game. After a slow start to the season, Centenary (5-14, 3-4 Summit) has had the hot hand lately, winning two straight and three of their last four games, including sweeping Western Illinois and IUPUI on the road last week. The Gentlemen edged both teams, topping WIU 47-45 on Thursday, then getting a buzzer-beater to get past IUPUI 58-56 on Saturday night.

Southern Utah Track and Field Off to Flagstaff This Weekend |

Utah indoor track and field will continue its season when the team travels to Flagstaff, Ariz. for the Lumber Jack Invitational. The trip will mark the first of three for the T-Birds to the campus of Northern Arizona University during the indoor season.
“We want to build on the performances that we have achieved so far this season,” head coach Eric Houle said. “We have several athletes that are seconds away from greatness.”
Southern Utah will be without the majority of its distance runners as the team prepares for the Husky Invitational next weekend.

SUU Gymnastics Set for Home Opener on Friday Night |

Southern Utah women’s gymnastics will host its first home meet of the season when the Thunderbirds welcome Sacramento State to the Centrum Arena on Friday night. The meet is the second consecutive conference meet for the T-Birds after opening at Cal-State Fullerton last weekend.
“Sacramento State brings in the top all-arounder in our conference in Marina Borisova,” head coach Scott Bauman said of the meet. “They are a very seasoned and veteran team and will bring a great deal of competition to the meet.”
