Carolyne Sidell

Carolyne Sidell passed away peacefully on May 30, 2009 in St. George, Utah. She was born on August 23, 1917 to Joseph and Anita Cazeras Lyles in El Paso, Texas. On April 16, 1940, Carolyne married her sweetheart, Bernard, and enjoyed a wonderful life together for 59 years.
At the age of five, her family moved to California where she learned to dance and perform on stage. Carolyne was bilingual and was fluent in Spanish. She worked for the Olga Lingerie Company and would model all of their new bras and girdles. For ten years, she was the President of the Alter Guild for her local church, where she oversaw and delegated all of the special needs of their Pastor. She was also an amazing seamstress and taught her daughters to be the same.
She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Lee (George) Nesbitt and Dolly (Skip) O’Meara; 10 grandchildren, Ronnie (John) Young, Chris Templin, Scott Grigsby, Stacie (Tyler) Holt, Roy (Tasha) Nesbitt, Loren (Sara) Nesbitt, Daniel (Kathy) O’Meara, Julie O’Meara, Scott (Margaret) O’Meara and Elizabeth (Allen) Englert; 15 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Babe and Dora; 3 brothers, Willy, George and Jimmy. Carolyne is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard and grandson, Tony Welsh.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the New Promise Lutheran Church, 244 S. Valley View Dr., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, Utah and Wednesday, June 3, 2009 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., just prior to services. Coffee and desert will be provided for friends and family following services. Interment and graveside service will be held on June 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 Centinela Ave., Los Angeles, CA. A sit down luncheon will be provided immediately following graveside service at the Marriot Ramada Inn, 6333 Bristol Pkwy, (across the street from the cemetery). |

Dorothy Nielson passed away Friday morning, May 8, 2009, after a courageous fight for life following surgery. The youngest of ten children, Dorothy Lorraine, who named herself at age three, was born July 9, 1922, in Rockford, Idaho to William John & Addie Tall Spencer. She married her childhood sweetheart, Bill W. Nielson, Colonel retired, on September 18, 1946, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dorothy was raised in American Falls, Idaho, Oregon, and Salt Lake City, Utah, where she graduated from Granite High School. Dorothy was the wife of an army officer who gave her and their two sons the opportunity to live and enjoy different areas of the U.S. Bill and Dorothy loved to golf and spent much of their retired time on the course. Dorothy was an excellent seamstress, loved history and stayed up on current events. She had the uncanny ability to remember names, dates, events, song lyrics, and recite poems from her childhood. Her whit and sense of humor was unsurpassable. She was a very special lady and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Bill Nielson; her two sons: Kim Nielson (Coleen) and Kurt Nielson (Robyn); grandchildren: Stormie, Scott, and Stacy; great-grandchildren: Jerimya, Alexander, Sheldon, Abbigail, Cameryn, Isabella, Jared, David, and Breanna.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her five brothers and four sisters.
A St. George viewing will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St George, Utah.
A Salt Lake City open house farewell will be held at the home of Stacy and Corey Hunt, 660 East 8680 South, Sandy, Utah, Wednesday, May 20, 2008, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. |

John Paul Thornton, 45, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 9, 2009, St. George, Utah. He was born August 2, 1963, in Helper, Utah to George R. Thornton and Lupie Ann Benivedez. He grew up in Kearns, Utah and graduated from Kearns High School in 1981. He married Stacey L. Robles on June 3, 1989. John had a special love for his daughters, Mercedies and Mackenzie and his loving wife, Stacey. He loved his family, his friends and his job. He enjoyed fast cars, music, CARS, golfing, CARS, bowling, basketball, CARS, camping, Disneyland and more CARS. He worked at Olympia Sales in Salt Lake City, Utah, Purolator Products in Salt Lake City, Utah, Fashion Lanes Bowling Alley in Murray, Utah, Auto Zone in Salt Lake City, Utah and St. George, Utah. John was presently working at Barrick Gold Strike in Elko, Nevada. John was always willing to lend a helping hand. He never met a stranger who didn’t become his friend.
John is survived by his wife, Stacey; daughters, Mercedies and Mackenzie; mother, Lupie Ann Thornton; father-in-law, Stan Robles; mother-in-law, Judy Robles; brothers and sisters, Rick (Joan) Thornton, Jeff (Linda) Thornton, Lori (Omar) Linares, Larry Moore, Valeree (Konrad) Pilimai, Keri (Tim) Montoya and Mark Robles; and many nieces and nephews that loved him.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 15, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and also Saturday, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to services, both held at Spilsbury Mortuary. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT. Interment will be in the Tonaquint Cemetery, St. George, UT. A Luncheon will be held at the Elks at 5:00 p.m. for friends and family to gather and reminisce about "Big John".
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at any Mountain America Credit Union for the completion of John’s dream, his 1971 Nova and his family. |

Leslie Elville Townsend, 82, and Barbara Lee Townsend, 85, passed away together on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 of natural causes. Leslie was born April 23, 1927 and Barbara on March 22, 1924. They shared over 30 years of love and companionship together.
Les and Barbara dedicated their lives to serving the Lord, preserving nature, and making the most of life.
Leslie served in the Armed Forces during WWII, and worked many years as a civil engineer for the U.S. Forest Service. He was a contributor and volunteer for a variety of projects in St. George including the St. George LDS Temple, the Dino Tracks Museum and the Tuacahn Amphitheater. Les had a great love for flying planes and helicopters, was an avid golfer, and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol. One of his greatest loves was singing with the Southern Utah Heritage Choir internationally, as well as directing and singing in other groups. Barbara was involved in retail sales for years, was a passionate health care advocate, had a love of all animals, and enjoyed debating politics and world affairs. Above all she was a devoted loving wife and companion to Les.
Leslie and Barbara are survived by many loving family members, friends and fellow LDS worshipers.
A grave side service will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11:00 am at Leeds City Cemetery, Leeds Utah. |
