Letters to the Editor:
An Open Letter to La Verkin

Our Beautification Committee met Wednesday, April 23. The City Manager was there to help, as usual. He was his normal cheerful, optimistic self in spite of the verbal abuse he has listened to lately.
I think he has done a wonderful job in serving La Verkin. So, he made a mistake in the budget, depending on the development of Topside. So what? Anybody out there never made a mistake? He was looking for a way to correct the situation when the water rate increase meeting was held March 26. I listened to about a half hour of abuse directed at him, and that's all I could handle. Now, he's endured a solid month of it.
Enough already! The Council met and decided on four lay-offs instead. Then a whole new group of people were furious, even circulating some sort of petition. I don't know what the petition said because nobody requested my signature. If I had time I would circulate a petition of my own, commending the La Verkin Town Council, Mayor, and City Manager for the outstanding job they are doing.
They bowed to the outrage of that group, and decided on a different remedy. Now, everybody is disgruntled, and blaming the City Manager, after all he's an “outsider” and easy scapegoat.
Please take the time to write a “Thank you note” to the City Manager, the Mayor an the Town Council. They are struggling with a difficult problem to the best of their abilities. We've got special dedicated people in all these positions, along with a great staff.
